What to do in Salida, CO: Winter Activities

Although Salida is usually considered a summer destination, word is getting out that we have a slew of awesome winter activities as well. People are starting to arrive from all over the country to play in the snow and they are rarely disappointed! Here is an overview of the most popular activities in the area.

Winter activities in Salida Colorado
Downtown Salida in the Winter

Ski at Monarch MountainOne of the most popular activities in Salida is to ski or board Monarch Mountain. This is a smaller resort but what it lacks in size it makes up for in spirit! And did I mention shorter lift lines?

Snowmobile at Monarch Mountain - These tours are truly breathtaking - private trails take you high into the Rockies with beautiful views of the natural landscape and old mining operations. A really fun crew, you are bound to have a great time with these guys! Oh and did I mention our guests receive 10% off any tours? Call (719) 539-2572 to book.

Snowshoeing Old Monarch Pass:

Another favorite activity of our guests is to snowshoe Old Monarch Pass. The trail is moderately difficult and follows the ski slopes in the beginning then veers into more natural terrain. I can’t personally speak to this experience, but I can vouch for the very happy faces that come home from the trail!

Soak at a mineral hot spring - We are extremely fortunate to be driving distance from several amazing natural hot springs. I absolutely love having a long soak on a cold day - especially after skiing or boarding.

Some of the most popular hot springs in the area are: Joyful Journeys, Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort, and the local aquatic center.

Shop downtown Salida - Salida has many amazing boutiques carrying everything from cute trinkets and jewelry, to outdoor gear, to antiques. Park at F Street and 1st Street and see where the day takes you!

Drink. - Every drinking town has a ski problem, or is the other way around? There are plenty of libations to sample in our little town! Check out our brewery guide here. We also have a great distillery in town, so don't miss Woods Distillery if you find yourself downtown. If you're not as much into the adult beverages, stop by Howl Mercantile and pick up a can of DRAM - one of our favorite local companies specializing in natural sparkling beverages. Howl also has fantastic coffee!
