About us

THE PROPERTY
Our property is home to 33 acres of pastures and mature piñon pine forest - many of our trees are more than 600 years old!
The property is situated on top of a hill which allows you to bask in 360 degree views of the Sangre de Cristo, Collegiate Peaks, and the Sawatch mountain ranges. You can even see Tenderfoot Mountain - the famous Salida "S" mountain.
We have a small trail on our property that takes you to our 1800's homestead cabins. We are also adjacent to the Methodist Mountain trail system which is very popular for mountain biking, hiking and off-roading. By foot or bike, you can leave from our property and arrive at the trailhead in only a few minutes!
Whether you are in the Main Inn, or one of our cabins, expect gorgeous views out every window. Our cabins are cleverly arranged to feel secluded and offer the best possible views.
We are making some exciting changes over the next few years, so check back for more outdoor spaces, animals, and a free outdoor game shed.
THE TOWN OF SALIDA
Salida is a quirky little town that has remained somewhat off the beaten path until recently. Architecturally, our old town looks like many 1800's western mining towns, although Salida was originally founded as a train depot to allow access to mining in the area.
The downtown historic character has been well-maintained and made more colorful by local artists' vintage-style murals and other public art works.
Downtown has plenty of shops to keep you busy rummaging local and vintage boutiques for an entire weekend.
Although a relatively rural town, Salida locals love to eat and it shows! We have many locally-owned restaurants serving food that will impress almost any foodie. The same goes for adult beverages - we have three great craft breweries and a whiskey distillery with killer drinks and an even better vibe.
History enthusiasts will love our historic walking tours, exploring nearby ghost towns and seeing many of the preserved historic buildings in town.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Despite our fun downtown, few people spend much of their trip there because they are too busy getting dirty in our mountains, rivers and acres of BLM land!
In the winter, guests love skiing and snowboarding at Monarch Mountain, a small local resort with reasonable prices and fewer lines than many Colorado resorts.
Snowmobiling is also popular - locals and visitors alike enjoy exploring old mine sites through deep powder on their machines. Although Monarch gets good snowfall, the town of Salida is lower altitude and enjoys mild winter weather, giving you the best of both worlds!
Summer is Salida's most popular season and the Arkansas River is our crown jewel. Fish, swim, kayak, or white water raft the beautiful river, keeping an eye out for our abundant wildlife.
Mountain biking, hiking and off-roading are equally popular and guests enjoy access to the many public lands surrounding the town.
Visitors also enjoy year-round access to more than 3 hot springs within driving distance. Mount Princeton and Joyful Journeys are two popular destinations for our guests.
FAQ

What hospitality format do you use?
Blue Coyote Ranch uses a self-service model, which is a hybrid of a vacation rental and hotel. We use self-check in procedures and generally give our guests space to enjoy and explore our property on their own. You may not see us at the front desk but there is always someone on-site, just a text or call away.
What is your payment and cancellation policy?
100% of payment is collected at the time of booking. Cancellations made 7 days or more before check-in are fully refundable. Cancellations made 6 days or less days before check-in may choose between receiving a refund minus a $75 fee, or receiving a credit to use at another time. Shortening of trips is considered a cancellation and the above policy applies. Gift Certificates are non-refundable. All change and cancellation requests must be made in writing to info@bluecoyoteranch.com
If you are a self-service hotel does that mean I can't get extra towels or other amenities??
Not at all! But you will need to contact us via phone if you need anything like towels, linens, extra toilet paper etc. We keep one towel set per person in every room. This is mostly to reduce the energy waste of washing unused linens which really adds up in hospitality! That being said we are more than happy to provide extras if we know you will use them. You can let us know prior to check-in if you know you'd like extras, or contact us any time during your stay and we can drop some off.
Main Inn guests will also find hot tub towels on the main level.
Are there age restrictions on your property?
Lead guests (the person whose name is on the reservation) must be 21 years or older to book. All children are welcome in our cabins. Children who are able to respect the quiet atmosphere of the Inn are also welcome to stay in the Inn building.
Should I book on Airbnb, Booking.com, etc. or with you?
We are on several third party marketing sites including Airbnb, Booking.com and others. You are more than welcome to use these sites if that is your preference. However, we highly recommend booking directly with us. Booking direct is guaranteed to be the best rate available since most of those sites charge around 15% in fees. Booking direct also provides more flexibility should you need to cancel or change your reservation.
Do you serve breakfast?
No. We have a 24/7 coffee bar, microwave, and light snacks available if you are staying in the Main Inn. Cabins also have coffee maker and filters, as well as a full kitchen.
I can't find the room I like to stay in! Did you change room names?
Yes, we recently changed our room names, but rest assured your favorite is still here! Here are the original names and the new names: the Tudor Suite is now The Rancher Suite; the Blue Room is now The Park Ranger; The Whitewater Room is now The Naturalist; The Lancaster room is now The Mountaineer; The Ponderosa Room is now The Biker; and the Queen Elizabeth Suite is now The Geologist.
What is your pet policy?
Dogs are not allowed in the Inn, but they are welcome in our cabins for $25 per dog per day.
Dogs must be on-leash near the Cabins and Inn, but we have a large fenced pasture area where your dogs are welcome to run off-leash. Refer to your Inn booklet upon arrival for instructions to off-leash areas.
You must clean up after your pet. We provide small trash cans and doggy bags to make this as painless as possible.
Our rule for dogs is: You know your dog, make good choices accordingly. We have a minimum $75 fee for any dog waste, dog hair, or destruction caused by dogs. If you trust your dog to be home alone, great! If you've lost more shoes than you care to admit, you may want to leave Fido in a crate while you are away.
We love having dogs, but we are serious about the pet hair - some dog hair is very difficult to remove. If this sounds like your dog, please keep him or her off of furniture.
Service dogs are welcome in the Inn and Cabins at no cost. A service dog is defined as a dog trained to perform a specific task to assist a disabled person. If you bring a Service Dog, be prepared to demonstrate or explain this task if we get a complaint about your dog's behavior. If we find you were not honest about the status of your dog as a service dog, you will be fined a $150 fee. Emotional support animals are not allowed in the main inn but are welcome in the cabins for $25 per dog per night. If you have a specific question or concern about your service or emotional support animal, please give us a call.
Cats and other pets are not allowed.
I have an allergy to animals, should I stay with you?
We do not recommend Blue Coyote Ranch for anyone with a serious allergy to dogs. We thoroughly clean between guests, but it's impossible to guarantee that there will be no dander or hair under beds, etc.
Although we do not allow dogs in guest rooms, there are a few instances where dogs might still be present: if someone rents the entire Inn, we allow them to bring their dogs. Service dogs are always welcome in all areas of the ranch. And lastly, our Pomeranian, Moose, and Labrador, Lola, are sometimes with us working in the Main Inn.
In addition to dogs, we sometimes have horses and cows on the property. Although animals are not close to guest rooms or cabins, you will need to pass them as you move around the property.
What is your early check-in policy?
We do not guarantee early check-ins but if you email us to let us know you will be in town early, we will text the number on your reservation when your room is ready. Email: info@bluecoyoteranch.com
What is access to your property like? Are you close to town? What are winter conditions like?
We are fortunate to be within a 5-minute drive (2 miles) to downtown Salida; our property sits on top of a wooded hill with large lots so we are able to provide a natural and secluded property without sacrificing your ability to quickly reach restaurants and shops.
Winter Conditions: Salida experiences winter weather from November to as late as May. There is a steep hill on the county road leading to our property that can be icy during and after storms. Drivers with experience living and driving in mountain communities should not have any issues. We strongly reccommend that less experienced or uncomfortable drivers bring a 4WD/all wheel drive vehicle and arrive during daylight hours. If you reach the hill and do not feel comfortable driving, please reach out to us and we can shuttle you to your rental unit between 9 am and 6 pm.
Do you have a hot tub?
Guests at the Inn enjoy full access to our 6-person hot tub - brand new as of spring 2021! Unfortunately, cabin guests do not have access to a hot tub at this time. We only have one tub and it is not possible to keep it sanitary for use for the entire guest capacity of the property.
Is there a guest laundry facility?
We do not have a guest laundry facility at this time. There is laundromat about five minutes away off of Highway 50. They have self-service machines and also offer an affordable wash & fold service. They prefer you call them in advance for wash & fold services. Their number is: (719) 433-8069 and their address is 1410 E St, Salida, CO 81201.
This is high on our "future projects" list, and we hope to build a guest laundry facility in coming years.
Do you rent to large groups or wedding parties?
Yes, we love hosting family reunions, wedding parties or friends' weekends! We can sleep 15 people in 6 rooms in the Main Inn and another 24 people in our 4 cabins.
Please reach out to Sara for pricing and policy information: sara@bluecoyoteranch.com
Is there free parking? What about for trailers?
We have plenty of parking to accommodate one car per room in the main inn and two cars per cabin. We have plenty of room for additional vehicles but would ask that you contact us on arrival so we can direct you to overflow parking near our dumpster.
Trailers are fine as well, just let us know when you arrive. Please check before parking as we need some of the open space for our maintenance vehicles and trailers.
Do you offer horse boarding?
Yes, we love having horses on the ranch and there are plenty of riding trails in the area. We charge $10 per horse per day. You will have access to water hydrants, but at this time we do not provide hay or other necessities. We have a three-stall barn with paddock and acres of cross-fenced pasture areas. You are asked to clean our the stalls before departure. Let us know at the time of booking so we can be sure of availability.
What happened to the Tudor Rose?
After more than 25 years of building the Tudor Rose into a thriving and beloved vacation destination, Jon and Terre Terrell retired from the bed and breakfast business. We purchased the property and took over ownership in December 2020.
We have tremendous respect for what Jon and Terre created and although we were impressed with the Tudor Rose business model and brand, we have decided to change a few things to make the business our own.
What's changing:

We no longer serve a hot breakfast. We have a 24-hour coffee bar with decaf and tea options in addition to regular coffee.
