Our Story

We founded Blue Coyote Ranch in December 2020 after falling in love and quitting our corporate jobs in Denver.  Before becoming Blue Coyote Ranch (BCR), this property hosted guests as a Bed and Breakfast called the Tudor Rose (we no longer serve breakfast).

Since buying the property, we have renovated the Lodge bathrooms, flooring and windows. We are also developing the landscaping and outdoor areas throughout the property - Yay, new fenced dog park! As of May 2022, we have all new memory Casper foam mattresses throughout the property. We pride ourselves on our cleanliness, quality linens and timeliness in responding to guest concerns.

In September of 2022 we got married at Blue Coyote Ranch, so when you visit our property you are visiting a place that is very special to us, and one that we hope will become special for you and your family as well.

Since then we have pivoted our business to focus primarily on groups (family reunions, weddings, corporate retreats, friend groups and other events). We have built out our facilities to make this a truly special place to gather with loved ones or colleagues.

We hope our continued improvements make our property your new home in the mountains!

FAQ

00.

I want to book your property but it shows as unavailable - why is that?

We are a property that caters primarily towards groups (weddings, family reunions, friend groups, corporate retreats, etc). We manage our calendar to optmizie availability for these types of bookings. For this reason, our booking calendar opens as follows: - Whole property rentals are available to book up to two years in advance. Excluding weekends May - September, groups of 16 or more can also book up to two years in advance - Lodge and Cabin rentals are open for booking 6 months in advance - When available, individual Lodge rooms are released 30 days in advance

01.

What is your payment, change and cancellation policy?

For reservations made on bluecoyoteranch.com: 100% of payment is collected at the time of booking. Cancellations made 7 days or more before check in are fully refundable. Cancellations made 6 days or less days before check-in may choose between receiving a refund minus a $75 fee, or receiving a credit to use at another time. Shortening of trips is considered a cancellation and the above policy applies. Gift Certificates are non-refundable. All change and cancellation requests must be made in writing to info@bluecoyoteranch.com For reservations made on Airbnb, booking.com or any other website: the policies of the site you booked on are what apply to your reservation. Change/cancellations must be made through the site that the reservation was made on.

02.

If you are a self-service property does that mean I can't get extra towels or help during my stay?

Not at all! Unlike a vaction rental, there is always someone on-call to help with anything you need during your stay. We don't have a staffed front desk, so you will need to contact us via phone or text if you need anything. We are happy to drop off towels or missing items during business hours and are available 24/7 for any emergencies or issues that may prevent you from enjoying your stay.

03.

What time is check in and check out? Can I check in early?

Check in is at 4:00 pm and check out is at 11:00 am. We do not guarantee early check ins (or late check outs) but you can email requests to info@bluecoyoteranch.com. If we are able to accommodate you, we will text you the day-of and let you know!

04.

What is your pet policy?

Dogs are generally not allowed in our Lodge unless you are renting the entire building. Dogs are always welcome in our cabins for $25 per dog per day; the same price applies to the Lodge when you have rented the entire building. Service dogs are welcome in the Lodge and Cabins at no cost. A service dog is defined as a dog trained to perform a specific task to assist a disabled person. If we believe you have misrepresented your dog as a service dog we will ask you to prove your dog's status in compliance with ADA law. If we find that you were not honest about the status of your dog as a service dog, you will be fined a $150 fee and may be asked to leave. Emotional support animals are not allowed in the Lodge unless the entire building is rented, but are welcome in the cabins for $25 per dog per night. If you have a specific question or concern about your service or emotional support animal, please give us a call or email info@bluecoyoteranch.com. Dogs must be on-leash near the Cabins and Lodge, but we have a large fenced pasture area where your dogs are welcome to run off-leash. Refer to your Welcome Book upon arrival for instructions to off-leash areas.   You must clean up after your pet. We provide trash cans and doggy bags to make this as painless as possible. Our rule for dogs is: You know your dog, make good choices accordingly. We have a minimum $75 fee for any dog waste, dog hair, or destruction caused by dogs. If you trust your dog to be home alone, great! If you've lost more shoes than you care to admit, you may want to leave Fido in a crate while you are away. We love having dogs, but we are serious about the pet hair - some dog hair is very difficult to remove. If this sounds like your dog, please keep him or her off of furniture. Cats and other pets are not allowed.

05.

I have an animal allergy, should I stay with you?

We do not recommend Blue Coyote Ranch for anyone with a serious allergy to dogs or other animals. We thoroughly clean between guests, but it's impossible to guarantee that there will be no dander or hair under beds, in carpet, etc.   Although we do not allow dogs in the Lodge rooms, there are a few instances where dogs might still be present: if someone rents the entire Lodge, we allow them to bring their dogs. Service dogs are always welcome in all areas of the ranch. And lastly, our Pomeranian, Moose, and Labrador, Lola, are sometimes with us working in the Lodge. In addition to dogs, we sometimes have horses and cows on the property. Although these animals are not close to guest rooms or cabins, you will need to pass them as you move around the property.

06.

Are there age restrictions for your property?

All children are welcome in our cabins and we provide pack 'n' plays in each cabin (please bring your own sheets). Children who are able to respect the quiet atmosphere of the Lodge are welcome to stay, but generally we recommend that children under 5 years old stay in our Cabins rather than the Lodge. If you are part of a large group that rents the entire Lodge building, you may invite children of all ages to stay with you. Lead guests (the person whose name is on the reservation) must be 21 years or older to book. Lead guest must be present for the entirety of the stay.

07.

What is winter access to your property like? Are you close to town?

Winter Conditions: Salida experiences winter weather from November to as late as May. There is a steep hill on the county road leading to our property that can be icy during and after storms. Drivers with experience living and driving in mountain communities should not have any issues. We strongly recommend that less experienced or uncomfortable drivers bring a 4WD/all wheel drive vehicle and arrive during daylight hours. If you reach the hill and do not feel comfortable driving, please reach out to us and we can shuttle you to your rental unit between 9 am and 6 pm. We are fortunate to be within a 5-minute drive (2 miles) to downtown Salida; our property sits on top of a wooded hill, so we are able to provide a natural and secluded property without sacrificing your ability to quickly reach restaurants and shops.

08.

Should I book on Booking.com, Airbnb or on your site?

We are on several third-party marketing sites including Airbnb, Booking.com and others. You are more than welcome to use these sites if that is your preference. However, we highly recommend booking directly with us. Booking direct is guaranteed to be the best rate available since most of those sites charge around 15% in fees. Booking direct also provides more flexibility should you need to cancel or change your reservation.

09.

Do you have a hot tub?

Guests at the Lodge enjoy full access to our 6-person hot tub - brand new as of spring 2021! Unfortunately, Cabin guests do not have access to a hot tub at this time. We only have one tub and it is not possibleto support the entire guest capacity of the property.

10.

Is there guest laundry?

We do not have a guest laundry facility at this time. There is laundromat about five minutes away off of Highway 50. They have self-service machines and also offer an affordable wash & fold service. They prefer you call them in advance for wash & fold services. Their number is: (719) 433-8069 and their address is 1410 E St, Salida, CO 81201. This is high on our "future projects" list, and we hope to build a guest laundry facility in coming years.

11.

Is there free parking? What about for trailers?

We have plenty of parking to accommodate one car per room in the Lodge and two cars per Cabin. We have plenty of room for additional vehicles but would ask that you contact us on arrival so we can direct you to overflow parking near our dumpster.   Trailers are fine as well, just let us know when you arrive. Please check before parking as we need some of the open space for our maintenance vehicles and trailers.

12.

Does your property have reliable Wifi?

Yes, both our Lodge and Cabins have reliable WiFi and we have had many guests work from our property including participating in video conference calls. Game systems and streaming services may be less reliable but generally work fine. Of course, like all places we do experience WiFi outages occassionally. If our WiFi were to experience an outage, there are several cafes 5 minutes from our property that can offer an alternative location to access WiFi.

13.

Do you serve breakfast?

No, we do not serve breakfast. This may be misleading if you have read our old reviews or seen us listed as a B&B. The property was formerly a bed and breakfast but we have not served breakfast since May 2021, and do not plan to add any food service in the future. We do offer grab 'n' go granola bars and yogurt for Lodge guests.

14.

I can't find the room I like to stay in! Did you change room names?

Yes, we changed our room names in 2022, but rest assured your favorite is still here! We previously referred to our Lodge building as the "Inn." Here are the original names and the new names of our Lodge Rooms: the Tudor Suite is now The Rancher Suite; the Blue Room is now The Park Ranger; The Whitewater Room is now The Naturalist; The Lancaster room is now The Mountaineer; The Ponderosa Room is now The Biker; and the Queen Elizabeth Suite is now The Geologist Suite.

15.

Do you offer horse boarding?

We do currently offer very basic horse boarding for $10 per day for guests staying at the ranch. We have a barn with 4 stalls and fenced pasture areas. We only allow one group with horses at a time. Please email info@bluecoyoteranch.com if you would like to add horse boarding to your stay.

16.

What happened to the Tudor Rose?

After more than 25 years of building the Tudor Rose into a thriving and beloved vacation destination, Jon and Terre Terrell retired from the bed and breakfast business in December 2020 when we purchased the property. We have tremendous respect for what Jon and Terre created, and although we were impressed with the Tudor Rose business model and brand, we have decided to change a few things to make the business our own.

 What changed:
  - We no longer serve a hot breakfast. - Our name officially changed in June 2021 to Blue Coyote Ranch. - We have upgraded all mattresses to memory foam. - We upgraded our satellite TV to DIRECTV with brand new dishes and HD receivers across the property. - The interior styling of the Inn has been changed via interior decoration and a remodel in Spring 2022. - We have upgraded all linens on the property.
